[Amc-list] Moparama Show Class Winner

Had a great day yesterday. Went to the Moparama show at Thunder Valley
Dragways, Marion, SD.
They had classes for AMCs. I knew I was going to win a Best in Show when I
got there because of
course I was the only AMC in the show. Still I had to get the car there,
it's about 100 miles one way.
The plaque will look good on the shop wall.

Pretty happy with the way the Javelin performed on the road. Cruises
straight as an arrow, no pull side to side,
rides the ridges and stuff in the road like they're not there, and pulled
off a respectable 20 mpg. That's pretty
good considering the messed up carburetor on it. I think the power valve or
something is screwed. I should be getting
probably 22 to 24 with it. Maybe I should change to a little smaller main
jet.
The cruise speed was between 55 and 65 mph. The tach reads 1900 to 2000 rpm
at those speeds.
About 2100 or 2200 at 70 mph. That's with a 26 inch diameter tire, 2.87 axle
and .63 overddrive. Tons of fun to drive the car at speeds above 70 mph now
too! Ran it up to a little over 80 mph for the first time in 20 years.
Absolutely no vibration or shimmy or anything negative. The car gives me a
lot of confidence type feedback. Corners like it's on rails. Maybe I'll get
brave enough to run it with WOT again until it tachs out like I did as a
kid. I think I used to get it to around 120 mph. Respectable for a stock 304
Javelin. I am wondering how fast it will go with the T5 instead of the BW
automatic. That auto trans ate a lot of horspower, and the stock 304 didn't
seem to have enough of that to push the car over 120 with the BW auto.
The carburetor is a conglomeration of original (off the Javelin) and salvage
yard FOMOCO 2bbl parts.
Probably not the best of situations.

Oh yeah the Mopar drag show and the regular drag race show was a blast to
watch. I haven't been to a drag strip in 30 years.
I really enjoyed the drag racing day, but would love to lap the Javelin at a
road course some day...............
