My only guess is due to heat concerns.
Has to be, with that small of a valve head I doubt it was rpm related.
Still makes you wonder.
Be nice if Tom could have sat down and asked ole' Barney these questions 35 years or so ago, saying, One day I'm gonna buy some of this old crap and want to know what is what and why you did it!
