I'd be realy careful examining the block and head around those two cylinders.
Could be a crack in that rear which would explain the double failure and the left to sit thing.
Guy fixed it and I filled the cylinders with coolant and he kicked that one dent in the 1/4 in and walked away from it.

hmmm, that's a pretty good story actually, if I do say so myself!
