Isn't that the real problem with the elder Chev engines??
The bore would wear out and ruin the engine. The Chev block is soft so it
gets worn away.
I guess that was one of the reasons I moved on from the older Chev cars.
On the other hand ( and I love to brag about this to the GM guys)
I pulled the heads on my 304 at about 90,000 miles to have the valves and
seats reground, (one cylinder was huffing a bit)
and the cross hatch pattern was still visible on the cylinder walls, with no
ridge at the top. Dang AMC made some HARD engine blocks.
