That's a common misconception Bruce! American Motors Corporation was formed in 1954. All the official documentation has "American Motors Corporation" on it, even when the corporate emblem was the roundel with "AM" script on it -- around the roundel "American Motors Corporation" is spelled out. The product brand name wasn't changed from Rambler until 1966, but the corporation was still AMC. 

American Motors of Canada was formed in 54 or 55 to take over from the old Nash and Hudson operations. James Mays called it "Rambler Canada" (the title of his book), but the official name as far as I can find was "American Motors of Canada". The original intent had been to take up assembly operations in the old Nash plant, but it was in such a state of disrepair that the Brampton plant was built in 1960. That's a story all in itself! A real estate developer wanted the site of the old Nash plant and traded four acres in Brampton with a new plant on it for the old Nash facility. The four acres was just a field, the developer built the plant in six months for AMC!! May's book is a good read...

    I have an 1964 Rambler American convertible built in Canada so that makes mine Canadian. I refer to it as my AMC (American Motors of Canada) since American Motors Corp wasn't formed till 1966. The other Bruce.
