You got to love that kind of of mentality.
Unfortunatly that's the world we live in now.
My lawn tractor split the case on it's transaxle.
The case halves were almost the same cost as a entire assembly.
So I just ordered a new transaxle online.
Bolted it in and was good to go.
You may be in the same boat with your mower engine.
but, if they quote too much you can always take a stab at fixing it as at that point what do you have to loose?
You can buy engines online, but getting one that can be sold into Ca. may be a problem.
It realy may not be worth fixing...
