Re: [Amc-list] 196/SR-4

Yes, the SR-4 bearing retainer is larger in diameter than the T-96 -- by a good bit (don't recall exactly how much, around 1/2" in diameter). I drilled three new holes in the SR-4 bearing retainer and bolted it to the T-96. I got lucky and got the holes centered correctly. The correct way would be to drill and tap the T-96 case, but I didn't want to risk getting metal fragments inside the trans. The only problem with milling the bell is fitting a stock T-96 later. You've got a mill -- if you can center the bell milling the hole out should be easy. If you need a spare bell I have one you can have for shipping -- I'll send and you can send me a check or PayPal whatever the postage was.

The front bearing itself is much bigger on the SR-4 compared to the
T-96, you can't swap the retainers like I did when using a T-96 in a
multi-pattern bell. I redrilled the retainer to fit the T-96.

I don't quite picture what you said here... so the SR-4 (and
presumably T-4) bearing retainer is bigger than the T-96. What
do you mean by redrilling the retainer?
