Re: [Amc-list] 4.0 swap question

You need to swap the pan.
The Jeep pan will be too low and hit the first speedbump you encounter, been there, done that.
A 72up 232 pan will work if you redrill the bolt pattern and only use a new one piece gasket and some little dabs of sealer in the extra holes for good measure. Don't try to use an earlier pan as there is no kick in for the passenger side starter and hammering the early pan in will distort that rail and it will leak... Been there, done that too :[
Best bet is a 258 car pan and matching pickup, it's bolt on.
The 232 pan will work because the stroke on the 4.0L is shorter then the 232, Do not try to use a 232 pan on a stroker or 258 by redrilling it, the crank will hit the pan as there are no little kickouts for the extra crank throw.
The one piece pan gasket is the cats meow... Way better then the cork and end seals and usually reusable!!!
