Jayson, You should fill the oil pump cavity where the gears are with Vaseline and not the filter housing. What this will do is fill the gaps between the gears allowing them to create more suction as the turning of the gears must displace the oil thus pulling the oil from the pan to the pump quicker. The petroleum jelly won't clog the filter and will dissolve in the oil quickly. Trying to pump air until the oil fills the cavity is hard and might not create enough suction to get the oil up there. If the timing cover is still on the engine, you will need to remove the filter housing to do this. Be careful when removing the housing as the gears may want to fall out from the angle they are at. Once removed, take a spatula or something similar and squish the petroleum jelly into the cavity without over filling it. Clean off the filter mounting surface and re-install the gasket and filter housing. Not start your oil pump primer. Nick, Alfano Performance 4849-76 st.
