" From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx>

" I dislike power steering, but I want a fast box. I realize that

" that, and it can't be worse than my Classic Wagon.

you can get 16:1 manual boxes; i have one on my american. i can
one hand it at any reasonable road speed, and that includes stoplight
corners. parking can take some effort though.

it's about 3t l-l. ps boxes go down to ~12:1; while easier to find is
it a meaningful gain?

my gear came from an amx that converted to ps. it bolted right in.

before they went to integral ps, i believe 16:1 manual boxes were
common on ford ps setups. i know they lagged quite a bit behind
saginaw; ironic, as iirc they used saginaw manual gears.

" Anyone given thougt to removing the power-assist junk inside
" the box? Can it be done, to convert to manual?

i don't see why not. i'm not sure you can take the piston off, but you
can remove its seals.
