Old thread, new info.
I used foam bought at a craft store on mine and it seems to be holding up very well so far!
I even used it to make a custom surround around my steering column swap.
It's available in black and may not be too UV stable, but most of the places we use foam doesn't get a lot of direct attention.
   Our local micheals has a whole selection of sheets of foam for crafts.
