Re: [Amc-list] Breaker points - stripped the screw - tap and die time?

Take the plate off and if the metal is still there only pulled or mushroomed around the hole you can sometime get it to work again by laying the plate on a flat metal surface and using a flat punch and hammer strike the hole and surrounding area. This will force the mushroomed pulle metal back into the hole.
I may have a plate here, but I'm still dealing with weight restrictions so I can't wrestle thru my stuff to look for one.
Other thoughts are a touch of braze, silver solder.
Keep in mind if that screw does not tighten you will be SOL as the points will move.
Lastly, pertronix, then you won't have to go back in later and worry about stripping it out when you need to changeor adjust the points.
I think you can get a replacement plate from about and 60's six cylinder delco dist.
Could be wrong.
