Re: [Amc-list] Eagle rear diff difaffembly

A low final gear doesn't automatically produce great
miliage. Every engine/tranny combo and body style has
it's "sweet spot" where the internal combustion engine
runs most efficiently, and if you run that engine on a
dyno it will find it's happy face at a certain RPM.
Running low gears with a OD might be lugging the
engine at 60 MPH, or whatever speed you cruise at.
Hook up a vaccuum gauge/tach combo and see where your
car is most happy at.
My American gets better gas miliage at 60 than 55, so
a slower speed doesn't always spell gas sippin'....Russ
