Re: [Amc-list] generator to alternator retro fit

It's a pretty common (for the last 2-3 years at least) alternator bracket now. You can get that and more conversion brackets, adjuster arms, and even an electronic gizmo that adds a "no charge" light to a one-wire alternator at
http://www.alternatorparts.com/Alternator_brackets_1.htm. Three pages of "stuff" -- the warning light gizmo is on the last page. Go to "home" and find lots of alternator repair parts as well as complete new (not rebuilt) alternators.
Search the "alternatorparts" site and you'll also find brand new Motorola 37A alternators. They were used on some industrial applications. Not cheap at $159.99 though! a 140A model is just $10 more...

The e-bay source is a great price! The conversion bracket the seller uses is $32 retail, so I suspect it's a cleaned up used & tested or rebuilt alternator -- the link above has brand new GM 10SI alternators at $90. It's still a good buy and I'd do it in a heart beat if I needed one!

I went to the Boise show back when I was stationed at Mtn. Home AFB in Idaho (mid 83- mid 87). At least I think it was the same show, may have been some other indoor show. It's still cold up there at this time of year! I do hope you get to drive your Rambler up and show them that there are still nice looking AMC powered AMCs around! Most you see in great shape have the engine bays cut up and an SBC (or something else that "doesn't belong") in there, with the suspension cut out too. The stock suspension is a bit "different", but it's still sound and plenty strong for any small block. The old 196 sixes are HEAVY!! Different isn't bad, though most people think that way. Mustang II suspension isn't the greatest either, just popular. Popular isn't always good -- think about how popular smoking used to be!!
