I agree, I've never succesfully cleaned and reused oiled brake shoes or pads.
even multiple cleanings only seem to work until the oil cooks back to the surface due to brake heat.
Toss'em if they get contaminated, it's not worth it!
On the flip side when I bought my 82 setup the rotors were worn out, but the pads were fairly new metallics with the red backing plates, [I forget what company made them, but knew at the time] anyway, I carefuly blocked them flat and still use them. Do they have asbestos in them? hmm, maybe, never thought about it at the time. Too late now !
