The 75 Matador, but you'll need the master cylinder for a 75 Matador also (it will fit). In 75 all AMC cars used "Big Bendix" 3.1" piston calipers and big bearings. Rotors will be a bit pricey -- about $100 each (when you need new ones -- if the old ones are good they may be higher when you need them!). Best place to check prices on-line is www.rockauto.com. The 77 Gremlin (assuming it's a six cylinder and not a four -- the four used a solid rotor front brake you wouldn't want) is an odd-ball. 77 and 78 use a big bearings spindle and rotor but the smaller 2.6" piston caliper. IIRC those rotors cost more than the Big Bendix rotors. The ideal setup is an 82-83 GM caliper from a Concord or Spirit, and the next best is the small Bendix setup from a 79-81 Concord/Spirit/Pacer. 

If the rotors need replacing you might want to look at the Scarebird kit (www.scarebird.com -- says Javelin, but will fit any AMC that originally had DRUM front brakes, won't fit the disk brake spindle). You'll end up with about $400 in the front brakes but with all new parts that are readily available at any parts store. Future repairs will be much cheaper.

I have my choice between a 77 Gremlin or a 75 Matador for disc brakes for my 71 Javelin. Which would be the better choice to pull from?
