I don't think there is any rust inside the tank -- it was drained religiously once a week. There IS some oil inside the tank -- got a nice grey goo from the drain valve, which spits and sputters. There are two large plugs in the side of the tank, about 2" in diameter. I'm going to remove at least one of them and wash out the tank, maybe get a good look inside. It's been in continuous use, never sat up, so should be good. Of course it will be in a far corner of the shop, so if it does burst a seam I should be safe! Even 150 psi is not enough pressure to cause a catastrophic explosion, if anything happened it would most likely just be a seam split and casue a big leak. No, I wouldn't weld it up and continue using it!

makes me wonder if there's any good way to check and/or remove rust
from the inside of the tank.  phosphoric acid wash?
