Why not an AMC? Maybe you or Joe Fulton can come up with something from the crusher law list? A slightly beat Pacer might be a good one... I'm sure someone can come up with a $500 parts car that could be made to run reasonably enough to compete! I have one here -- just one the wrong coast! A little rust in the "frame" areas won't hurt, the roll bar can add some support, and it only has to  hold up for so long...

The rules are pretty clear and good. I like the fact that safety items don't count toward the $500 price, and that brakes and roll cages are considered safety items. 

The only rule I don't like: 
1.4: Claiming Race: At the end of the competition, organizer may elect
to purchase any vehicle from its owner(s) for $500. In other words,
don't spend a lot on a cheater—cause if you do, you ain't gonna own it
much longer.

Now that could mean that if you win the $1500 top prize, you could end up losing your car and only getting $500. It would be easy to have $500 in safety gear. I imagine that this rule would only be used if a car really was suspected of being a "cheater", just so officials can tear into it. But you can cheat and break even (provided you win) -- just don't exceed $1500 total spent, safety items and all!

I've been asked to participate in a 24 hours of lemons team. $500 to get a 
car to the track is the limit. It ain't much.

Suggestions? It won't be AMC, unless someone had a Gremlin that the roof 
was irrepairably rolled flat, or something, even then... I spoze a jeep 
might be OK (even that ouch).
