You can do the job with a hydraulic press, but will have to remove the 
axle. That's not hard -- remove the brake lines from the backing plate, 
then unscrew the four bolts holding the backing plate on. Pull the axle. 
It might be a little stubborn -- many put a drum on backwards with the 
lug nuts on the studs just flush (at least 1/2 the nut needs to be on) 
then use it as a slide hammer. Nothing will fall out!

Once the axle is out you can set it in a press supported by the hub. 
Make sure there is a wood block between the end of the axle and the 
concrete floor. The end of the axle should only be an inch off the block 
(to keep it from falling over when it comes out). Remove the nut and 
washer from the end then put it in the press. It takes a lot of pressure 
to pop a hub off that's been happily in place for 30-40 years! If the 
supports look like they are springing a little, STOP! Now go and take a 
break. Come back in an hour. If the axle is still in the hub, make sure 
there is pressure on the jack and leave it over night. If it's not off 
in the morning you might have a problem -- I've never had that happen! A 
few raps on the side of the hub with a hammer while it's under pressure 
may help.

Just remember -- it's under TONS of pressure! When it comes out there 
will be a loud "pop" -- sounds like a .22 rifle shot. Just don't have 
anything but that block of wood between the floor and axle end, and only 
have a 1" gap down there. When the axle pops out everything will still 
be contained by the hub and press supports. If you're rapping on it a 
bit with a hammer be prepared for that pop -- it will still make you 
jump no matter how many times you've done it -- there's no notice at all!
