  Thanks for the feedback, this is exactly what Rick Jones was discussing ... smaller valves = more torque.
   
  The big question is what size CC chambers the 1989 360 heads have ... of course, they might not be 1989 heads, since it is a remanned engine.  Perhaps I'll have to pull the valve covers and get the casting numbers to compare.
   
  I ported the heads along the lines of the Performance AM Style publication, but did not fully open them up to match the gaskets.  Just cleaned up the runners and ground down & smoothed up the valve guide bosses.

In a Jeep that size you may well want to leave the valve sizes alone in those 304 heads.
specially since they are small stemmed.
My brother put a set of takeoff 80's 5,0L heads on a fresh 030" over 351 windsor in a 1980 Mustang.
It was a tire frying monster up to about 4,000rpm, then it dropped off quick. In your Jeep, that is likely exactly what you are looking for! Mind you his car was no slouch going on up to about 5500rpm, but it did not have the as much power up high as larger vales would have given it.
A lot will depend on exactly how those heads have been ported.
