I did the research for the article in AMC!! Squires Turbo Systems (www.ststurbo.com) sells kits commercially, and has been doing it for several years. They state they can get up to 16 psi, but their "standard" system is in the 6-12 psi range. That seems to be the norm for a rear mount system.

15 psi is enough to theoretically double power potential (atmospheric pressure is 14.73 psi -- won't be quite double due to losses -- takes close to 17 psi to double power potential). A rear mount is more than enough for a 50% power increase (300 hp + RMT @8-10 psi = 450 hp). If you need more than 10-12 psi it's better to go with a closer to the engine mount and a larger turbo. You can only use small turbos in the back in order to have enough velocity and pressure in the exhaust system to spin the turbine. A couple 2.0L-2.5L turbos on a big V-8 would work nicely -- one in each exhaust pipe. Or one from even a sub 2.0L four on a 196.... hmm.... 4-6 psi for a 25% power increase would be noticeable on that old thing! 127hp + 25% = 158.75hp, w/1V carb; 135hp + 25% = 168.75hp -- about what I got with a modified exhaust, air breather, and custom ground cam (estimated 170 hp). With the turbo taking the place of the muffler and a bigger exhaust system (2" to turbo, 2.5-3.0" after), p
lus the less restrictive air filter on the turbo (a cone type), there would be 150hp WITHOUT the turbo and cam for the 196 OHV/2V. The cam added roughly 20 hp in the mid range (1800-2500 rpm). So you'd get about 150hp + 25% = 187.5hp. Thats about the same as a stock 4.0L!!

After 7 lbs. on cast pistons use a Meth/H2O injection system.

After 8 lbs. and you're ADDICTED - you spin up to 12 lbs.

Then comes a 'dedicated' Turbo Engine build & 'Turbo Upgrades'

and a '3rd car' for 'daily driving' - 16 to 24 lbs. BOOST & bigger tires

- trans. rebuild / Boost Gauges / -

Court Appearances / Divorce / Rogaine / Viagra / Plastic Surgery /Cialis -

talking like Tony Soporano / Psycho_Therapy / NO2 Kits / Road Rage / Jail Time..
