Depends.
Are you running High detergent oil now?
If so get a filter on it ASAP to help trap all the stuff you are breaking free with the HD oil.
Stil running non det? Less likely to make much diff as the crud settles in the pan.
Either way, it would be somewhat better to filter a little compared to none!
I'd be changing out the oil every 1,000 miles if I wasn't running a filter.
