Re: [Amc-list] On an AMERICAN?? This big? They are airlinertires.........

What year book do you have?
AMC used a vile smelling liquid that was thicker then auto trans fluid.
The aftermarket and rebuilt shops spec 70W-90 in non world class transmissions.
The gears ride directly on the shaft and atf is not thick enough to support them and will tear the shafts up over time.
I actualy have Mobile one 15w-50 Mobile one Synthetic in my non world class trans. I admit I don't know if it sufficient for protection, but it has been working fine so far. John Elle pointed me towards it. I believe it works well in both world class and non world class. I would not use it in a world class myself, too many stories of the synchros delaminating.
If starting with a fresh trans I was going ot use long term, I would do more research and make a definite decision!
Perhaps, Redline or similar Manual trans lube would be a better choice.
What I have read leads me to believe using anythign other than atf or a sepcific fluid designed for the synchros in world class can lead to problems.
The non world class uses simple old brass synchros.
