I have more time now.
what I wrote was that the ZR2 axle is a 8.5" GM 10 bolt.
stout enough and easy to get parts for.
I figure if I wanted to go that way I could get it shortened to the American specs install two aftermarket axles, move th epads and have stout rear axle.
  The ZR2 axles are not as expensive as you might think as they are so darned wide most people don't want them.
S10's in general have 7.625 inch rings and are fairly sturdy. Just not as beefy as the 8.5 inch axle.
