IIRC, My 68 Mustang ragtop also had places to mount the shocks, both equal and staggered. I'm betting it's something they [All/most manufacturers] discovered around that time to both help handling and traction. The two go pretty much hand in hand. if you don't think so, Not saying YOU in partiular!, Anyway, if you/anyone doesn't think so, go unbolt your rear shocks and take the car out on the street, gas it, You will smoke the tires, you will also likely loose control of the car and take out someones mailbox! [Now how do I know that?] Hmmm, Oh yeah, 17years old, 302 4speed Maverick, no rear shocks, it was a blast smoking that right rear tire, then I tried to grab second gear, Hmmmm, lost a handle on it real quick. One creased fender and two mailboxes later. Well lets say I never did that again! Good thing no one was coming, the mailboxes were on the opposite side of the road and I took them out while going pretty much sideways! I had to go home and change my shorts!!! Good thing the seats were good old 70's vinyl!!! -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 " I was different before people dared to be different" -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "ROSS BLAIR" <bigbad69@xxxxxxxxx> > snip > > Here's my take on the staggered rear shock mounting on the 70 Javelin/AMX cars. > In 69 the shocks are not staggered (both are behind the axle).
