[Amc-list] brake question...

OK, so 9x2 rear drum brakes have 69.7 sq. in. of braking surface (each
wheel). These went on small cars.

10x1.75 rear drum brakes have 67.69 sq. in. braking surface. These went
on big V8 cars.

Umm, less/same area? OK the larger diameter gives slightly improved
mechanical advantage and maybe better cooling.

But why bother? Increased pressure (wheel cyl adjustment) would gain the
leverage.

How can this be?

(10x2.5 fronts however have 99.8 sq. in. area, now that's worth it. But
the 9.25's are close...)
