Thanks Jim.  I checked it with a tape measure and it's about 1 3/4", so I've 
got a later crank.  There's a thin sleeve in the end of the crank.  I'm 
assuming this is a pilot bearing for a manual transmission, and will need to 
come out to use the auto.
