[Amc-list] gas tank cleaning

Weird how all of a sudden there's posts about similar things at once.

A google search turned up only one outfit around Los Angeles that cleans
gas tanks, RUSTECO, and they want ---> $575! <--- to dip-clean a 20
gallon car gas tank. I could probably have a stainless tank fabricated
for that much money.

So I may have to attack it myself. I am thinking that if I can find a
solvent that will dissolve that junk in there, I can then do a more
ordinary clean/derust.

Assuming I can find a solvent, I am thinking that suspending the tank
with rope about 3 ft off the ground, putting 10lbs or so of pumice rock
and solvent, and shaking it back and forth might do it. I can sit my
lazy a** in a chair in the shade and shake it well.

If I get the gunk out of there I'll use brick cleaner for the rust,
thanks Frank for the tip!

I can experiment with small chunks and a few teaspoons of solvent on the
bench.

$575 buys a lot of home experimentation!
