the -stock- drivetrain won't take the power, but it can be reinforced.
the 390 in the rebel machine wasn't quite 408hp, but it was up there
in torque.

the ax15 and r154 would both imho be out of their leagues with
anything over about 300 cubes, maybe not even that much.  i don't like
sounding like a broken record, but i really think a ford toploader is
your best bet, cheaper and stronger and easier to find than an amc t10.

racers ran on the amc20 axle successfully with some pretty hot cars in
the '70s.  the main thing they did was replace the 2-pc axle shafts
and hubs with 1-pc ones from moser, strange, summers bros etc.  there
are even folks who say if you just keep on top of axle nut torque the
2-pc axles are fine.  and between amc and jeep you have 2.86, 3.07,
3.15, 3.31, 3.54, 3.73, 4.11, 4.56, and 4.88 gears at least, and i'm
pretty sure there was a 3.91 in there too.
