I don't know about that. I have a service manual that cover both pre and 
post war cars (the war being WWI) and it has nifty tips on things like 
making a piston ring compressor from a tin can and pouring new bearings 
(the section on wooden wheel care is a real page turner!). There's a lot 
you can do without yanking the motor if so motivated.
