Holy moley. 263 ponies and a six-speed in a hatchback econobox.
I like it.
Too bad the Saturns you linked in the same post don't have such options.
FWIW, there is a 5.0 conversion kit for Ford Focus (Focii?) that converts
those cars to sleeper RWD terrors. I've been thinking about getting a
wagon with the conversion. But I guess that wouldn't qualify as a FWD
performance car.

No, not *that* market.
I'm talking about the gangsta-lookalike rides. You know, the countless
Navigators and Escalades tricked out with $4,000 wheels, more chrome added
on than came on a 56 Buick, and such that you see with the mirrored windows
and stereo vibrating the walls of the surrounding buildings. They are
ubiquitous these days, much as Mercedes were fifteen years ago.
Those guys plunk down $ 40 large for the biggest ride they can get and then
add on another $10k to $20k in accessories. ACCESSORIES. I have a hard
time parting with $100 for an NOS steering wheel for an Ambassador.
However many of these huge SUV's Ford and GM are selling, they are making
big money on each one sold. Yes, AMC did that with the GWaggies; but with
AMC the windfall was from "old money". The Nav/Esc are selling to new
money from a different clientele that AMC never reached.
