There should be a brass bushing in the tailshaft.
It's a fairly easy thing to replace, any trans shop can do it for you.
I'm not sure about pulling the T35 tailhousing, but most are a piece of cake.
If that bushing is shot it will take out  seals and could either be the source of your vibration or just one more casualty! 
  If they are the same, I have two trans here, one is a 68 and one is a 69, IIRC. If you can't get a bushing I would be willing to send you down a tailhousing as the ones in my shed are destined for scrap come warm weather and a shoulder that works.
