I didn't know CJs used the 3.1" caliper through 78, thought they switched to 2.6" when the small cars did (77). So MP Brakes has an erroneous listing -- the master cylinder should be 1" for 79-86 Jeep brakes... but maybe Jeep changed the pedal ratio to compensate? I don't have a CJ repair manual covering 79-86 so can't say. I do have an 89 XJ/YJ manual though. It might have MC bore. The late model CJ calipers are the same as AMC cars from 82 on -- a GM caliper. It might not be exactly 2.6", as it may be a metric caliper, but as you say the size is similar (as in almost the same -- close enough to use the same MC with no noticeable difference). " " [] " " The Jeep CJ kit should work if you pull the booster and turn the bracket " upside down, but I'm not sure if the push-rod is long enough. Master " cylinder bore is the same 1.125" with left ports as the full-size Ford " kit, but the Jeeps used 2.6" calipers 79-86 (the kit states 74-86). ~'74-8 cjs used the same big bendix calipers as amc cars. not only big fomoco cars but also trucks up to 6900lb f250s did, and ih small trucks. there was also a variant with a 3.375" piston. the 2.6" calipers were used on cjs and xjs up to '89/'90, exactly the same as on amc cars. later calipers are similar in size and may be compatible. full size jeeps used a delco caliper shared with gm full size and light trucks. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
