[Amc-list] 71-74 cowl induction air cleaner seal

Hello all..I had something real disheartening happen to me the other night.  I was looking at the rubber seal on my 71 cowl induction air cleaner flapper that i purchased new from an AMC Dealership i worked at in the mid 80's when i noticed it was cracking on the factory seam.  This really upset me since my orginal over 35 year old orginal is not cracking.  Does anyone know of a good chemical to keep these seals soft and flexable; and does anyone know of a way to "mend" the "cracking" seam.  Thanx loads...Duane
