That car has been advertised a couple of times before
on craigslist at the same price, I believe.
Obviously, people are not waiting in line to buy it.

As to color options, the original 500 special was
supposed to be big bad green with tan interior I
think. I would think you would need good
documentation to prove that a 500 special came in any
other exterior color.

Thanks Joe! I don't know much about the AMX 500. Didn't know they were
all supposed to be a particular color, or I might be getting it mixed up
with another dealer special.

Mark,

The only real value in the date coded wires is seen
from a concourse correct restoration. All the wires
were date coded from the factory. If you had a car
that was built in the third quarter of 70, then the
wires that came on the car from the factory would most
likely have that code printed on them. Performance
wise, there should be no difference in them.

I need new wires for my 74 AMX. The originals are
dried out.
APD has "date-coded" wires for $79, and non-dated
coded for $29.
What are dated coded wires, and are they worth the
extra $50?
Thanks,
mark

I work for a precious metals recycling firm here in
CA. Until about one and a half years ago, the Delphi
Electronics facilities supplied a lot of precious
metal scrap to our facility. When we were audited by
Delphi in 2004 or 2005 I mentioned that I had an old
car at home with date coded Packard Electronics spark
plug wires (my 1966 Rambler American with factory
wires).

The rep said he was very familiar with that product
but that Delphi had recently gotten out of that
business and had sold thousands of sets of date coded
wires to a another company which intended to keep
supplying date coded wires using the Packard logo and
date coding system.

I don't know who that vendor was, but evidently the
products are still available.

A: I think you misread or I misprinted. My plan is to make the D20 work on
the driver's side (LH) and keep the axle in OEM Eagle positioning. Exhaust
piping is easy since the diff and driveshaft don't move. I may get something
else up my sleeve though. I've been offered a Jeep NP219 and if my eyeballed
calculations are correct, I may be able to get away with it and not mangle
the floor.

Jim, you can't just flip the Eagle front axle to the right side,
you
know. How do you plan on overcoming that little problem?
Swapping left
and right side axle shafts and tubes? Seems like it would be
better to
leave the drive on the left and bend a new head pipe. You'll
have a lot
of floor work either way.

-------------
My plan for the Spirit (I keep trying to call it an AMX
because it
reminds me of the '77 I had to part for the motor to go into my
'73
J4000)
is to put EFI on the 258 and a lockup 727 trans (pretty basic to
this
point
but now it gets "different") then put a Dana 20 tcase on the IH
727 (off
an
AMC 6 rig) and flip it to the driver's side. Top that off with
an AMC
Eagle
front axle and sub frame and Jeep XJ rear axle (I have a 3.07
geared
pair)
I'll have to mod the floor a bit on the driver's side, but
not nearly
as
much as for the regular tcase used in Eagles.

Forget AMX's -- here's a *real* rare AMC:

>Item title: AMC 1970 Army Truck 2 1/2 AMC multifuel

>End time: Jan-20-07 20:18 PST

And these three cars just look to good to let rot:

>Item title: AMC : AMBASSADOR WAGON 1965 AMBASSADOR 990 CROSS COUNTRY
>WAGON 3 FOR 1 PACKAGE

No, neither are mine.
