IIRC from my bush pilot days, you can strain the gas through a good quality chamois and it will separate the water from the gas. The gas will go through the chamois but the water will not.

During the restoration of my AMX, I pondered the same question about exhaust headers. I have had headers on the car for its whole life and I'm tired of the noise from leaks so I opted for the newer factory high flow manifolds. My memory tells me that tests done "back in the day" showed these manifolds flowing almost the same as headers.

Some neat pictures, my first question is where exactly is this unnamed scrap yard. There are some really neat old cars in it.
