This is probably one of those questions that can't be answered with any certainty but here goes anyway. I am reassembling my 70 AMX and I came across an oddity that I can't quite understand. The bolts holding the passenger door hinges to the door post have what look like pure copper washers as opposed to regular steel bolts and washers for the drivers door. The copper really shines up nice. Before someone says the door was changed and the bolts with it, understand that I bought this car new in 1969 and I've owned it continually since then and the passenger door has never been off the car until now. Maybe its as simple as the guy on the passenger side of the assembly line in 69 got a new supply of bolts before the drivers side guy, but these copper washers were probably more expensive and if anyone knows a reason why they would use them, I'd be interested in hearing it. I've probably been spending too much time in the garage alone, I guess.
