sorry for the delay in posts. satalite internet in iraq is spotty and we had a bad storm come thru that messed things up ontop of that. anyway... onto the amc goodies.

you were correct. it is a 62 classic it is going into. my 196 is startin to wheez something fierce. she tries to run great, but the oil smoke comin out the exhaust. especially starting out at a stoplight. the valve guides are gone from the unleaded fuel and no lead substitute availible. was bound to happen over time. rebuild is in the plans for it then put it away in the corner for later times. IN THE MEAN TIME...

i want a healthy 304 put in, with a t-5. all bolt in, no major surgery so i can go back to stock if i so choose. i have a bellhousing out of an 80's jeep with a 6cyl and t-5. i have also been able to sorce a t-5 crossmember/tranny mount for a mustang. already to go with brand new bushings and everything. i have had to move my t-96 shifter onto the floor. i will have to close up that hole. i have the factory 50/50 bench seat in it that makes the bed. i am keeping it that way just because of the "wow factor" that it gets at the shows. i will need to see if i have just barly enough room to put the mustang one in as is, (mostlikely not) or scrounge around and find an s10 tail shaft. (pukes at the thought of that gm part goin into the rambler) also, there has been a thought of notching the front seats out just a little of the frames to make room for a regular mustang shifter, putting it right there close by.

so am i correct in understanding that a mustang sorced t-5 from 93 and earlier will fit that jeep bellhousing as long as i get the right front bearing retainer?? that input shaft length that is. the clutch, maybe a RAM?? i dont have much experience in anything other than good old autozone stock replacement clutches. anyone with a good recomendation for a good clutch just a little grippier than stock ill consider. anyway, thanks everyone for all the help. will post more when i can.

by the way, im looking for somewhere i can post pics for people to see of the car. i sent frank some pics of it. we need to have somewhere we can all show off our amc cars together. like myspace. i do have one of them. www.myspace.com/62classic if anyone would like to see.

Don't forget you have to make a new rear suspension to get an
open rear axle in there, to replace the torque tube setup.

It can be done, but most conversions I've seen forget that rear
axles don't just go up and down, they rotate, eg. one wheel up
on a curb the other low, or jacking, etc.

Motor mounts and transmission mount won't match up; the trans can
probably be adapted without modification but the motor mounts,
Frank can tell you, he's done it.

Once you do all this it will NOT be a bolt-in to restore the
196 and torque tube.

(PS: Those seats are great -- real springs, comfortable as hell,
look nice... lift out cushions!)

At some swap meets it may take me an hour to go one

don't be afraid to check out the Camaro, Mustang or VW

Justin; all yards have to abide by each states
individual laws. In Washington the law says that each
car has to drained of all fluids and they must be
collected. You will see used anti freeze, brake fluids
amd oil/ATF for sale in the show room for next to
nothing. The cars all have to be off their wheels too.
In Oregon, just South of Wash, it is still old school.
The cars are brought in and dumped real informal. Of
course all yards also deal with the corporate doctrine
too if they are a chain....Russ

I would say there were more 69 Camaros made than the
entire Jav line from 68 to 74. I am not sure of the
production run in 69, but you can even buy a brand new
69 Camaro body today.....Russ

Yeah!
I hope it is not going to cause him to much trouble at home.
Does that technically leave the 66 safe?
You said at one time you could keep one unlicensed vehicle.
Now to figure out what/when/how to go from here.

It's been 4-5 days that I offered the free 258 located outside N.Y city.
I even e-mailed the person that was looking for one but with no reply. I
am going with my son to the rented storage room tomorrow to see what is
still there. I'll post tomorrow what is for sale or probably most likely
free to be picked up only. By the end of the month anything still in
there will go to the dump, the 258 included. I hate to send parts to the
dump but I need the 113$ a month to spend on my yellow cars body work
this winter. No Hornet parts are in there that are for sale.

That is just so hilariously a GREAT idea! Let others laugh,
you'll get the parts!

I'm not sure what I'm looking for, or if I'm looking for...

But I will do that some day. It's a great idea.

Perhaps they are not supposed to be letting gasoline/gasoline fumes get loose.

Anybody close the US CDN border that can buy engine paint and drive across
the border and mail it to me.
I would buy the paint and have it shipped to you. And then reimburse the
shipping fee and a handling charge.

Let me know

The subject of RHD conversions came up a few days ago, and I mentioned a chain drive Jeep conversion. Want to see one? Go to E-bay and search for item # 110042028809.

The extent of peoples ignorance never ceases to amaze
me. I once saw a guy balance his GM something (too
picked over to figure what it was) on a shovel handle!
I've seen guys hammer with their buddy holding the
chisle! And the tales are numerous as I spend a lot of
time in pick-n-pulls. Just thinning out the herd as
far as I am concerned, these idiots don't need to be reproducing......Russ
