Posted to the AMX files and Bart's list and also to the E-mail provided
to the person looking for the engine in N.Y. City. No response. Next
saturday it goes to the dump if no respond from anyone. Might keep it
till the end of the month depending on my son's work schedule if I hear
from someone who really need's it. In reality next saturday it must go.
All junk in my storage room goes as my son has his bosses truck to haul
all of it out. As I am disabled and on SS disability I have to cut back
and cannot no longer to pay the storage. Davis all parts promised are
still yours and will be or are in my garage at my hone..

A: Around here they started puncturing tanks and/or draining all fuel to
keep idiots from removing tanks with a torch (can you say BOOM!!! I knew you
could... at least once!) There have been numerous fires at yards in recent
years from idiots with no brain control. (Duh!!!! I'll just drain this gas
into an open pail about 10 feet from a cutting torch and $100,000 worth of
building/machinery and see what happens. Yup! Yup!)

dunno about in, but gasoline is a hazardous waste in this state
so the
first thing most yards do here is yank and crush the tanks -

I believe it is intended for a 62 Classic.
No details on what seats he has or intends to use so I don't know if he will ahve shifter location issues. I was pointing out the source trans for the input length.

A: CJ came 2wd (DJs) and so did Comanches (I thought about chopping down a
cab and using the uniframe for a buggy) so solid front axles are easy to
come by (just ask and I'll post an enquiry to the Comanche group I'm on. I'm
sure you can have your choice for @$50 or so) Even a Grand Wagoneer frame
would work, but '73 and older are narrower (at least in front)

Problem: Jeep CJ wheelbase is damned short!! Might work with an
old 50s
Willys Jeep pick-up chassis, or even an FSJ Wagoneer/Cherokee.
No matter
what you do it will sit high and require a new front axle, so
costs is
going to be up there.
A T bucket on a Jeep chassis might work though. Postal Jeeps are
2WD.
They use a tube axle in front, more or less a straight pipe
replacing
diff and axle tubes.
I think you'd be better off with a T style chassis. It won't
cost any
more once you figure all the mods if you build it yourself from
2x3 or
2x4 tubing, and salvage a straight axle (or buy used). Run the
big
exhaust on the outside of the body like some of the early Indy
cars,
just dip enough on the right side that you don't inadvertently
rest your
left elbow on it!

But then I stumbled upon photos of a 1984 Jeep CJ chassis --
it's of course just a pair of rails that suuuure looks a lot
like a 32 Ford! (If you take off your glasses and squint.)
2) Go further and strip out the front axle. I've never heard
of a short jeep w/2wd, but what do I know. But of course a beam
axle would do just fine -- lots of parts there!

1969 AMC Ambassador SST two door hardtop,
Has the AMX 390 engine, originally equipped with dual exhaust, column
shift automatic, power steering, power drum brakes, AM radio, bucket
seats, A/C, tilt wheel. Interior is the Charcoal gray vinyl exterior
was originally Regatta Blue now painted white with black vinyl roof.
Not currently running and the body is a little rusty. deserves a

I'll second that -- for about two weeks I worked in a wrecking
yard in Bremerton Washington -- I'm no wimp or quitter, but those
guys were insane imbeciles -- they were going to die/get maimed.
No thanks!
In fact, the one job I recall was yanking a torque tube rear
from some big AMC. The car was stacked on other cars, and as it
slid off to one side, about to kill me and the mouth-breather
I'm working with, he jammed a driveshaft or something to prop
the rambler up to the next car over, which leaned, but he kept
yanking on the TT. I was actually scared for my life.
Would that clown (and his boss) torch out a gas tank? Oh yeah.
Some people simply need to be told what to do and how to do it.

Didn't realize that! I've not abandoned this jeep/rod idea.

I'm not convinced that the jeep chassis as rod chassis will
be costly. I've done no work/research on bodies (and I am not
happy with Ford cliches) but removing the jeep body bracketry,
and repositioning the rear shock mounts, fillin unsightly holes
if body sits on rails, getting new leaf springs all around,
and a beam/tube axle, is not that big a deal.
Clearly the AMC driveline stuff bolts in.
I'm not saying body/tub is trivial, it's not. That's next,
then I iterate from chassis up again.
