I agree with Matt. The studs freeze in the block from
corrosion such as moisture getting in there (easy enough for
thermostat/water neck housings) then hot/cold/hot/cold/...
engine heat.

I run a dry tap down the holes to get them dry and clean.
The stud should run to the bottom two-fingers.

Non-hardening Permatex or equiv (I assume that's the #2) on
the stud, block-end. Wet the whole length! Totally blocks water
from getting into the hole.


(I have one can of high-temp high-nickel anti-seize (overkill
for these) I use for everything, but I'm thinking that for this
particular app, the Permatex might actually be better on the
stud nuts. Sticky and gross, but it will keep water out of the
threads, and that alone should prevent seizing. It's not a big
torque problem area.)

Still cogitating over a Rambler hot rod. Pretty much settled
on a Rambler six, 3-speed/OD, rambler rear. Probably a stock
motor or minor performance hacks.


But then I stumbled upon photos of a 1984 Jeep CJ chassis --
it's of course just a pair of rails that suuuure looks a lot
like a 32 Ford! (If you take off your glasses and squint.)

Close enough to make an all-AMC hotrod!

So there's two ways to go with this:

1) strip a Jeep literally down to the rails, lower suspension to
street-car height (swap out springs etc), and find/modify/make
a rod style body to go on it. I'm not sure how low it could go,
the rear fram arch isn't very deep (but I wanted a "tall boy",
hotrod-wise). This would then be a 4wd hotrod?

Eh, it's too much of a jeep to be a hotrod.


It would be a real Rambler Mentality hot rod, in the good sense
-- fun, old style, cheap and all Rambler!

Ignoring "sheet metal" or glas for now, thinking about chassis;
rails, front axle, all that rot. The hot rod stuff (aka old ford
repro and workalikes, and aftermarket fitments like Mustang II
front ends), it's all quite doable.

You need to spend a  day at the Pomona Swap meet for the ultimate
experience in 
scrounging used stuff!
 
Get there early and maybe you can find a Nash Roadster Body.

A few years ago there was talk that some company was working 

on a large-scale diecast model of the hump-fendered 1971-74 

Javelins.

 

Whatever became of that? Anyone recall the company name, 

website? Or who was talking to them?
