I need the Hornet AMX Front Spoiler & Extensions for my new project. Was out 
bid at the last second on a set on Ebay this am. I know what they're worth 
but I'll buy them in ANY condition as I'm getting pretty good at plastic

(The most obvious solution of course is to just make a front

I assume you pressed hi/low again and the lows didn't come on?
If so, could the entire headlamp switched melted internally,
contacts having worn out long ago, got hot, and failed.
The headlamp switch also contains a thermal circuit breaker,
which could have failed.

You should probably get a test lamp and a TSM and trace it step
by step... but jerk the headlamp switch on and off a bunch of
times, see if you can get them to light... if so, carefully
feel the switch after a few seconds of operation and see if is
gettin hot.

OK, finally found some jeep drivetrain photos (crawlin around
under cars in a parking lot in Los Angeles is a good way to
get arrested/run over.)

Damn, didn't realize it's chained over.

I was thinking of the engine in the rear, crank flange towards
the front, for style reasons.

Except for the oil pump and distributor (vacc. advance,
lubrication), I can't think of a reason not to run the engine
the other direction (requires new cam of course).

Or I could push the engine really far back (behind the driver),
pointing the usual direction, to a jeep front axle and xfer
case with a long shaft under the driver's seat.

With that, could almost make it look like #50... :-)

A: The trans will be a T176 (4:1 first gear I think)and it'll have a NP208J 
in the Jtruck. I would switch the exhaust to a Renix manifold and a new rad 
is @$130. (I got the 3 core CJ V8 conversion rad for mine) The box can be 
swapped for a flatdeck, but the main thing to do is check the frame for rot 
ahead of the left rear wheel (behind the gas tank)

Jim, the J-10 is a 1982. 258/2V, four speed, I think the guy
said it's a 207 or 208 transfer case. Bone stock, hasn't been
lifted/mudded/trailed much, mostly an old work truck the PO
decided to retire. It's a bit rough overall, but not to bad for
a 24 year old truck with little work done to it and pretty well
used. Inside of bed is nice, but some rust through on the sides
in places. Cab is pretty solid and straight though. Dash pad is
twisted, but I looked at an FSJ Cherokee he had for parts (has
about 20 Jeeps of various models/years) without the pad. Fill in
the pad mount holes and it's a decent looking all steel dash.
For $1200 it looks... well... like a $1200 4x4 truck. Needs a
donut gasket in the exhaust and the radiator replaced. I never
saw one patched with bondo before! The parts Chero is donating a
radiator (it's 258 also). I'm planning on offering $950 for it.
He told me for asking price he'd change the radiator, less I'd
have to do it. Might need brakes and such before a
long trip, but ran pretty good considering the exhaust leak.
Turns out I knew more about AMC/Jeep sixes than he did -- we
talked a good bit and looked at several he had around.

The Comanche (I bet it IS a BA-10/5 under there!) would probably
be the best truck, but it's hard to pass on a J-10 in halfway
decent shape! If I just use it for a work truck over 3-5 years
and never fix it up it's worth the price though.
