Going to go look at a J-10 w/258 and four speed tomorrow. All I know is it "runs good" and isn't rusted out, and is a short bed. Asking price of $1200 OBO probably means the engine runs but is on its last leg, and the body might not be rusted out but might be a little on the beat up side. Same guy also has a tired 4.0L Comanche with blow-by (could just be the PCV hose...) and pops out of either 4th or 5th gear (I forget which - indicates a synchro is bad though). Trans is supposedly the AX-5 or 15, guy deals in Jeeps and says it's definitely NOT the Peugeot trans. Wants $650 as is for that one. Have to run it by the wife, but don't think she'll complain for $1K. Will need/want a truck when I get to SC anyway. One of these I'd drive down in early November with a load of "stuff" that needs to go and take a bus back. Hmmm.... haul the bike down and drive it back? Probably to cool in November!! Might haul the bike down and leave it too... less to move in June! Plus if I did brea!
 k down
it would be better to have the bike than the riding mower (which I don't really need here). But if you see someone driving an older red riding mower down the shoulder of I-95 between D.C. and S.C in early November, please stop and see what happened!! ;>

I have both a T-176/NP208J and a T-18a/NP208J J-series drivetrain if you find that the J-series has any issues. Good luck...

hi all
apparently I dropped an exhaust valve or some such similar
catastrophic
failure on my return from the AMC nationals and royally screwed
things
up
in the 258. does anyone have a desire to part with a motor (or long
block)
in MI for low $$$? thanks Doug

===       ===

same thing awhile back a Lister finished a
Turbo installation on their AMC6 - took it out
for a trial run - ran great - next morning start up
dropped the valve - project junked.

it's an extra expense - more task to change out
the valve locks & keepers to an aftermarket Crane or
other supplier - but cheap insurance if you're running
the Inliner.

I'd post to the Forum & GremlinX.com -
www.epage.com - Inliner.org for a spare.

Okay, so every once in awhile I stretch words a bit by adding the suffix "nocity". I call that extending the meaning of the word via wordnocity.

I can't claim ownership of this disease, I caught it from an ex-president of Star Mfg. where I work. His favorite? ?Thicknocity? defined as the condition of a part dimension being over specification creating the illusion of being thick. It was the illusion of being thick because he never figured an out of spec dimension should be a problem with plow parts, besides to the farmer a thicker plow part lasts longer.

AMC ? content:

I?m looking for a disk brake setup for my 70 Hornet, I would prefer parts from an 81 ? 83 Spirit since I already have a spare set of new calipers.

Also a tilt column, with column shift for automatic for the Hornet.

Thanks,

Jack

Was a good running engine in 2000 when I parted the car out. Can't give
it away so in 3-6 weeks it goes to the dump. It has been in my storage
room since 2000. I have an engine hoist in the room to load it. Bring
your what ever and pick it up. Note I am stating it is in Yonkers, N.Y
right out of N.Y. City 5 miles north of the city line 2 miles off of Rt#
87 (N.Y. State Thruway) Pick it up or it goes to the dump. To many
people have said I want it (my son's friend for the last 3 years) To the
dump it goes to SOOON!!!!!!!
Anyone interested contact me off list at amc74hornet@xxxxxxxxxx 4-6
weeks maybe sooner as need to close out the storage space.

Good Afternoon,

Has anyone used polyurethane sway bar bushings on anything, AMC or not, and found a method to keep them from "screeching"? I installed a larger Addco sway bar on my Eagle and although it seems to work just fine, whenever I go over a dip there is a distinct screech from the front. I've gone back underneath and can't seem to find anything obviously wrong. If I push down on either front fender, I don't get the noise. Any ideas?

Regards,

Russell

Sure, lots of ways:

1. Louder stereo.
2. Earplugs.
3. Leave in driveway.

Sorry. Not making fun of you, comiserating!

My rambler suffers this same disease (in the strut bushings). It
bugs me that it sounds like a "groaning old car" when in fact
it's as good as new.

As I'm sure you found out, grease, silicone spray etc all work
for as long as the stuff is in there -- a day or a week.

Something about the surface stiffness of the poly, it "strums"
like a guitar string when rubbed under pressure.

Bushing it with nylon, delrin, etc would probably do it but
that's not much of a suggestion.

I found (not sure what year it is) a rather nice Rambler Wagon Classic. If
my pea sized brain can remember, I believe it said a 770?? maybe a 660??
Has some rust issues around the rear wheel wells, but would make a rather
nice and easy restoration project....as if I dont have enough already!! The
interior is in good shape, it has a rear roll down window and a fold down
rear hatch. So a person can get things in and out. The chrome is in rather
good shape and has a roof rack on it. One thing I did notice that it has
this rather strange light on the front bumper, like it maybe for the front
plate. Somthing that I have never seen before and I thought it was rather
cool! I am not even sure if the rust issues go farther then the rear wheel
wells. I dont even know if the car runs or not. It is this way ugly green
color but it is all there. It has the a 232 in it and I believe a three
speed on the tree. If anyone could give me an offer price on this car and
some help, it would be greatly appreciated. And of course I will gather more
information also. The car is located in Western Montana.

What I use for guesstimating value is on-line guide www.vmrintl.com . They
have classic car prices guide . Just look under Rambler for this one. 1965
is the last one shown for this one. Select "Classic" for the various types
for the wagon. There is a condition guide handy for condition reference.

I think it said this value is from $600>1600 for #3 or #4 car. Other mdels
may be lusted under "AMC" rather than "Rambler."

A: The Pony is a RWD version of the Excel (almost the same sheet metal, but
they also came with wagon bodies) and pretty close to the Dodge Colt (same
drivetrain) I preferred the Hyundai Stellar (larger motor and better
ride/longevity) and wouldn't mind having another '88 in my garage. 2.0L OHC
with the same motor as D50 pickups and auto O/D.

peugeot and renault. it was known as the 'prv' engine. trivia:
it's
a 90* v6 because it was originally designed in the late '60s as
a v8,
but as production approached the first gas crisis hit and a

i'd agree. this car has little in common with other amcs, much
more

this
would be a substantial re-engineering of the drivetrain and
probably
chassis.
