[AMC-List] Old/new

It wouldn't be an AMC list "lecture" if at least one "illustration" was not unavailable when called upon to make a point, so if anyone didn't get to see the AMX "Mini" tire inflator, here's another option. At:

http://www.freakingnews.com/search.asp

search for "Verne Troyer" --- if technology is really worth its cost, you may get a result. Will the AMC list ever be a "words-and-images" thing? Probably no more than AMC itself ever became a "Big-4" maker. Everything involving AMC wanted for money: there was/is never enough.

But --- that shouldn't stop us from trying. Or sometimes succeeding.

The original American Motors flyers states: "the meeting guide poster
is guaranteed to turn your audience on!

In 2006, could you "Turn-on and tie-in with the groovy AMX youth scene" anywhere BUT in this online AMC community? Why -every- AMC fan with a computer (or with a library card...) isn't registered as citizen or contributor is beyond comprehension. Maybe, if AMC is the last independent, it's more a case of "Better dead than read." (Or maybe the independently-preserved life of AMC --- from funny 45s or folded build orders or folio-ed pencil sketches to faded paint chips --- and all the individual histories that die when their holders do, may someday coalesce into the non-profit AMC archive beside the national Nash-Rambler-AMC museum that would showcase the complete history of American Motors in documents and on wheels. We can only hope that can happen: just as AMC hoped to survive and to succeed.

Today, virtually no one remembers how innovative AMC was in its effort,

but that doesn't mean that everyone does not still owe a debt -to- AMC.

"GM recognizes that it needs to improve the perception of their vehicle ownership experience. That will take time, but it is an important component in the company's effort to grow market share. Other automakers, notably the Korea-based Hyundai, have seen extended warranties pay off in increased sales. Such expanded coverage can subtly alter a brand's image and boost showroom traffic."

>>Re: how not to sell a car

(Referring to the dog-day eBay Ambo: maybe a '66 in -dog- years...)

It's too bad that "how not to..." seems "how to..." too often with AMC.

It's too bad too, that too few AMC fans seem to see a '66 is a '67.

It's too bad that too much of today's AMC sensibility seems stupid.

If that never changes, AMC will never earn or receive much respect.

But if the other makes dumb down enough, AMC might become brilliant. In a recent newspaper, brilliant for-sale ads (or "adds") ran for a Cadillac "Broham", a Chrysler "Concord", a Geo "Prism" ("Corolla" is never misspelled), and a Kia "Sophia." 25% of the American population is "functionally illiterate" in 2006, so it's just a matter of -time-.

You will be dead, the real AMC will be forgotten, and the AMX/Jav/Mac/+ pod will still be cool. One of those AMCs really will cost $115,000, but there still will be no Big-4 list, community, museum, or archive. Unless. Hey you.

If Fisher Body had survived, it would celebrate a centenary on 7/22/08; if GM is still alive for its 100th birthday (9/16/08), Americans may be unwilling --- or unable --- to buy new GM cars --- unless this America becomes smarter -really- fast.

If the history of American motors had taken a slightly different turn in 1934, AMC history would not be written as it was. Do you know the chapter from GM history that could have rewritten the future story of American Motors itself? Do you know who designed the [sole survivor] (of several prototype cars commissioned), or where it [once] could be found? Do you think AMC history "around the edges" is as interesting as is AMC "straightaway" down the muscle car drag strip? If so, you have a calling.

Be smarter. Offer more. Do more. Innovate. Be more like your AMC.
