Joe:

Your 196 will not have a gasket where the exhaust
manifold bolts to the head; this is just a
metal-to-metal mating that you torque down to specs.

That said, I did once cut a gasket for that area
because I was getting a little leakage due to an
imperfect surface on one of the two metal surfaces.
The gasket material was super difficult to cut, and I
ultimately used a Dremmel tool.

The only gasket your really need is the doughnut for
where the exhaust pipe phlange meets the manifold.

just a note - amc had station wagon wheels as wide as 15x6, around
'70. also, mopar wheels abruptly changed in the mid '60s and later
ones definitely have smaller hubcaps, but up to '65 or '66 i believe
[haven't confirmed] they take the same size as amc. they have plenty
of 15x6" and 14x6.5" from the late '50s and early '60s and even a
pickup 15x8" which is 5x4.5" and takes hubcaps.

No, there was no exhaust manifold gasket. Tighten the center bolts and work to the outside. You might want to have the manifold surfaced if it looks like it was leaking.

The front shocks are indeed hard to find, but the last time I checked Kanter and a couple other specialty places had them. They have an extra large eye on the bottom. The hole in the rubber is about 3/4" in diameter (might be 1"). An aluminum spacer goes in the hole then a 3/8" bolt through that. The spacer is split in the center and has a flange on each side, onehalf goes in each side. This spacer CAN NOT be replaced with a smaller diameter steel sleeve. The spacer is so big to give the two arms support, that's all that holds them together except for the lower trunnion. They aren't cheap! If those on e-bay are NOS I'd leave them alone. 40+ year old shocks don't last long. Gabriel's special order service can likely get them, but that might be an application they don't support.

Any mopar from 1955-1988 except A body 1962-1974 with drum brakes (valiant, barracuda, lancer, swinger, scamp etc.) will work . A bodies with disc brakes had the bigger 5 X 4 1/2 .They were all 5 X 4 1/2 including trucks, vans Ramchargers.. Truck and Ramchargers and vans went to a 5X5 in mid to late 80's.I think 85 or 86. I am not sure.
I have 1969 dodge Polara rims on my 77 Matador and 62 Dodge rims on my Concord.
Almost all Ramchargers had 15 X 8 rims in the 70's and were an option on trucks. Dodge Magnum had slotted 15 X 7 and had a center cap. Police cars and taxis had slotted 15 X 7 and hubcaps...Super Coupes, Kit Cars, and Little Red Express trucks were 15 X 8 and were slotted with chrome on the trucks......lots of them out there ......eddie walker
