My favorite is when someone argues that Ford made the 390 in my AMX,
they're sure, because their uncle told them, and he also had one in their 67
F150. I just agree and tell them they're right anymore. I get more enjoyment
that way.

I agree, anyone who is selling a car and can't even research it enough to list it right is waving a big red flag. If they can't get the year right, what else do they have screwed up? Beware!

I have dealt with the same myths and stupidity for years. Sorry I can't
let it go. One idiot insisted my Hornet's 258 was a Chevy 6 because it
had a GM distributor. I said look at the starter it's Ford does that
make the engine a Ford? It's got a 904 Mopar tranny in it does that mean
it's Das Mopar? he was lost. Like my favorite one of the 4 redneck
comedians Ron White says " You can't fix stupid, STUPID IS
FOREVER!!!!!!" But I can't let it go and enjoy proving the idiots wrong.

It's also good to confuse them and ruin their day also:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330008960552
Of course then you ruin the sheer risk of them saying 'I told you my uncle's
brother who owned a Fairlaine was right in 1966; the AMC 390 is a Ford 390!'

Since we're picking nits, my pet peeve is the number of times I see reference to Rambler Rouge. That is a red Rambler. On the other hand, a 2 dr hartop would be a Rogue, whether or not it is painted red.

The Oct. 2006 issue of Cars & Parts has a 69 SC/Rambler (my favorite AMC)
on the covers, a 4-page story on the 57 Rambler Cross Country Wagon, a
4-page story on the 69 SC/Rambler, a 4-page story on the 78 Pacer Wagon
and a 6-page story on Bill Reddig, Nash stylist.

The Sep. 7, 2006 issue of Old Cars, in a story on muscle cars that march
to a different drummer, pictures the 72 Gremlin X with a couple of
columns on AMC.

Odes to stupidity? Odes to the uneducated? Odes to the idiots? What?

Odes to cars!

Including the $115k Matador. IIRC, it was a coup, maybe with NOS grill.

Needs rebuilt? No. For that dough, you'll get a Packard Enigma Encore.

>>
the combination of AMC, Penske, and Donohue was a success because of the quality of all three elements. There was no one item that made any of the other two more special. They all contributed equally and came out on top the fourth and fifth attempt after being right there close almost every prior year, even without Penske and Donohue.
<<

Armand discovered a site I'd long ago posted (too bad there's no big AM bullseye spot where all that sort of info is permanently linked to, huh?); but if "Effort Equals Results" is an ode to pre-success, he might want read that also.

>>
Oh Yeah the American in Iran was a Shaheen
I have a NOS nametag for one of them :)
<<

In Farsi, "shaheen" can mean a) a failure (often via fraud), b) a route to eternal suffering, or c) a broken vessel ; "Shauheen" (also spelled "Shaheen") can mean "falcon" and an alternate spelling of "Shahin" can be a woman's name. Thus an Iranian Rambler American could be named for a Ford ("Fix or Repair Daily"), for a Ford model, for a Chrysler Corvette (from which their Falcon compact car was to descend --- until a Ford Falcon forced Chrysler to become very "Valiant" instead) --- none of which AMC listers may care about.

http://www.autoweteran.gower.pl/concept/1955_Chrysler_Falcon.jpg

And versions of "Arya" can be no less complex.

>>You know I have never heard of Jalopnik but neat site.

Eddie (and any others who hope to see more than just the same old AMC): there's a world of wonderment out there. A banquet begging for diners. Open the door and see what great things the AMC norm (business as usual) has bypassed.

Start your engines and see what flew past the gills above your grilles

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/968/1002/1600/hrp21.jpg

and blew past the speedlines on the rear fenders of your classic AMXs.

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/968/1002/1600/hrp11.jpg

If you don't like the usage of words that have meaning --- tough luck.

You can carry on and ignore 'em: like Milner did with the '63 "Mystery" and the Marlin; like I even did with the '13 derived from the '12 Delco Cad (but since Frank took the time to write an answer, I will write him back about that), but there's not much drive to do more here when a "Blat!" comes back. No reason to force air through the 1970 AMC hood blisters

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/968/1002/1600/hrp23.jpg

or get burned again by the [current set of] "Trendsetting Sidewinders."

Hiss, boom, bah.

Why do far too many AMC listers drop the top and drive on in silence?

Why do far too many simply drive off?

Joe, do some research on electric water pumps. They are not generally
recommended for street use. They run at one speed all the time and will
likely circulate water to fast for low speed driving. I don't think the
motors are designed for that kind of continuous use either. They are
usually turned off running down the strip and just turned on to cool the
engine down quickly between runs. Most don't have a thermostatic switch
but rely on a simple toggle. The driver watches the temp gauge and turns
on/off as needed when idling.
