 At 14, I bought a Westcoaster 3-wheeler van and
turned it into an ice cream truck, which I would drive
to school on a motorcycle license, then I would park
across the street and just clean up at lunchtime.  I
could easily sell two loads in a day, at school and
afternoons. This gave me the dough in 75 to buy a 1970
Datsun pickup at the Flagstaff dealer.  It had been a
Nissan Baja runner, 2wd with a 240z transplant with a
5 speed.  But it had to go in my parents' name.  At
16, I bought a 65 Beetle for 100 bucks that had 25
miles on it with a broken crankshaft. But it had to go
in my parents' name. At 18, I bought a 69 Javelin SST
in Big Bad Orange, with 390, tilt, 4-speed and Trans
Am wing for 425 bucks. It didn't have the roof
spoiler, it had the fake exhaust rockers, but no big
stripe. It had double pinstripes down the body break,
kinda like what Doc keeps talking about on his Hornet.
>From the same guy I got a Hunter Green 70 SST 390 with
auto, ac, white vinyl, and it had the c-stripe.
Followed quickly by a 47 CJ2a for 100 bucks that I
assembled in the guy's driveway and drove off in.
My four headlight system on my 84 Chevy van is top two
for dim/bright, all four for bright.

there is a young fellow in my local autozone in se mass, that loves to
talk about amc's ,loves to look up the parts and see what other amc's
they fit, and give me his latest amc/rambler sightings in the area. He
likes to know what work i'm doing on the pacers or whatever project it
is when I need stuff and willing to track it down at another store. he
is even srupised wehn he find things in stock, ike carb rebuild kits,
shocks or other items.

well, Houston, you have a problem I think, the amc parts books lists
almost 25 different egrs for 77 and 77 up. they are not listed by
engine or anything. you have to have the numbers off of the old valve
to order the new one, and in the box for the NON OEM replacment, like
the KEM brand I just bought, or any other brand- they are all the same
it seems, just in a dfferent box, regardless if its delco or kem or who 
knows- you then need the correct number off of the old  OEM original
valve to match with the directions/slip inside the new one for the
right orifice  size to pinch in there. so if the one you took out is
oem or aftermarket? are there any markings at all on it so that you can 
reference back that number. the egr I bought for my 76 1bbl pacer 258
non cal is from KEM products. they have a number 877-kemparts that
maybe can help you. 
the other alternative is to find another 77 car with the same
equipment,  engine size and bbl, if cal or WHA , trans, a/c etc and see 
if you can read a number off of it. thats about all I can dig up at the 
moment.

It was a 50$ 1959 Stude Lark 2 door. Next was my first AMC and new car a
65 American 440 Twin Stick Hard Top (Solar Yellow) God I miss that car.
I still have the owners manual and warrantee card and a copy of the bill
of sale I found in a file in 1984. I also scored a nice solar yellow
promo on eBay few years back and found a 65 dealers brochure at an AMC
show 5 years ago. Next was a used 69 4 door Rebel sedan I bought when it
was 2 years old and had 21,000 miles on it and already had it's first
rebuild on that POS aluminum Warner, I had this car 2 years and dumped
it at 39.000 miles. It was the biggest lemon I ever owned. Next I bought
my yellow 74 Hornet Hatchback. The best car I ever owned except for the
crap Motorola alt. I still have it. Since 1979 I have bought beaters for
the winter. I have had a 71 Chebby Kingswood Estate wagon, a 72 Puick
Skylark wagon, another 71 Impala 4 door sedan and my current beater of
7-8 years now a 77 Malibu Landau Classic. And of course now a second 74
Hornet Hatchback for the last almost 3 years. I had been looking for a
Hornet Sportabout wagon since 1999 but could never find a good one for
sale so when the second hatchback showed up again after not seeing it
around for 4 years I bought it. Once I put bucket seats in it and got
used to the column shift and added a black interior it was almost just
like driving the yellow Hornet. I'd still buy a Sportabout if I could
find a decent one for the right price.

I went to install the missing thermostat for the auxiliary cooling fan
yesterday. You should have seen the Mickey Mouse way they had of
mounting it. It had a spiral spring wrapped around it with an eye on
each end. You were supposed to use wire ties to tie the thermostat to
either the cars thermostat housing or through the cooling fins on the
radiator. Sorry but this Mickey Mouse crap isn't happening on my car. I
figured a neat professional way to install it. An "L" bracket was made
with a hole in it for the thermostat and 2 small mounting holes for the
2 spring eyes to be screwed to the bracket. Now the thermostat was
placed flush against the front of the radiator tank and the "L" bracket
mounted on the radiator core support with 2 screws. There is no Rube
Goldburge, jury rigging or duct tape or any other Mickey Mouse crap on
my cars and after working for almost 3 years straight on this car it
wasent going to happen now. Also for the first time somthing actually
went in easy. I replaced the cheap after market plastic over flow
radiator tank in the car with a polished aluminum billet one. I bought
the unpolished one and polished it myself and saved 20$. The mounting
tab fit a hole in the radiator support and the tank bolted right in with
just the hoses having to be trimmed to the proper length. Now this makes
the stock AMC yellowed plastic windshield washer tank look shabby. I'll
have to check out Jeggs catalog for an aluminum tank I can modify to
replace the plastic washer one. All I need is a tank close enough in
size with a filler cap. Cut a hole in the bottom of the tank for the
pump and bolt in the stock pump through the filler. I also need to make
a bracket to mount a modern fuse holder I got from Ron Francis Wiring
under the hood. Next is the on-of-on toggle switch for the auxiliary
fan. While I am at It I may as well replace the gas gauge in the inst.
cluster and see if it is fixed and the gauge finally works. I also have
another headlight switch, maybe this will fix the dome light problem and
the inst. lights not dimming. I was going to start on my pin stripe
resto but it is just to hot and humid to do it at this time. I can work
on my 77 AMX fender flairs in the A/C for now.
