Window open, or closed?

I always thought that new hole is what let the bad parts out.

My dad always told me, "You don't learn if you don't ask." What
does
"window the block" mean? Never heard that before.

...in the form of a 65 Wagoneer. Don't really know if the vehicle is worth saving, but I've seen many Waggies from the 80's and 90's that were far worse than this. Couldn't beat the "Buy It Now" price and the vehicle was as described. Seller also sat on it for a few weeks until I could retrieve it. Unfortunately, there was no title. If its not that difficult to resurrect, I may go through the trouble of getting a title made.

Details: 3 on the tree, don't happen to know the gears. Light blue interior & exterior, bench seats. Breather was present in the cargo area. I'm primarily a Jeeper, stick to AMC-powered vehicles, and saw this as a good opportunity to learn more about the older motors. Here are some pictures:

One question I have is about the starter. It was present (you can see it n the floor in one pic), but off the motor and seemingly intact. The Seller explained to me that you can't get replacements anymore and it would have to be rebuilt. Any truth to this? If so, can someone recommend a reputable shop, preferably in the Detroit Metro area? If not, I'll ship it out.

I purchased a Center Force Heavy Duty clutch set for my 67 Jeep
(Kaiser) Pickup with a 327 and a t18 4 speed, the pilot bushing was the
wrong size and after days of arguing with them they finally acknowledged
that is was the bushing for the 350 motor with a different trans. Got
the "correct" bushing that was so tight that it siezed onto the trans
shaft and would not allow clutch disengagement, when I finally pulled
that apart and had a local machine shop build me the correct pilot
bushing, the clutch, with less than 5 minutes run time on it started
dropping springs out, which was of course my fault as their parts do not
ever fail. Never again.

Threw a rod out the side of the engine block?

Well I didn't get it either... Or maybe he shot a hole in it?

Must'a been too many burnouts.

according to the seller on ebay, these are NOS tail lights. one is still in the old bag with the amc part # on it. i have found tail lights for 62 americans no problem. 63 classics and up. the 62 classic is a round red lense, with a clear triangle on the bottom, and the center is a reflector with a clear "pretty" trim ring around the red lense. i have never found any new or nos tail lights in the 7 years i have had the car. i got pulled over by a cop when i first started driving it. said first, he had never seen a rambler and wanted to see what the hell it was, then told me to get that tail light fixed. now, me being the smart ass i am.... couldnt let it go.... told HIM to find me a new set of tail lights and then BUY them for me. cause i couldnt find them, and at the time, if i did find them, probably couldnt afford them. so he got all pissy and took out a can of red spray paint and made me spray paint the bulb red right there on the side of the highway. LOL. guess that
was better than it coulda been? it was only a small chip in one corner, but enough for him i guess. anyway, should look nice. my parts car 62 classic had some nice housings that the chrome cleaned up real good. lenses were still cracked and real cloudy tho. should look nice and puurrrty now. i have seen them before, but dont know where to look. them clear lense headlights. i have the 4 lights on it. 5" or 5 1/4" somethin like that. the small roundies. they take like h4 hallogen bulbs i think. anyway. wanting to find some of them. like how they look. still looking for someone who might have the stainless trim for the car. anyone have any leads keep me in mind if you could?? i guess thats about all for today. things are really heating up around here. 125 degrees almost every day.. latly been real windy and dusty. only 4 months left of this place tho. almost out. anyone near s.w. oklahoma, dallas area know of a 304? dont have to be running. just be a healthy candidate for a
 rebuild.

IIRC the brackets and mounts changed around 1974. PS pump was moved,
brackets bolted to the intake. If it's a pretty basic car you probably
won't notice much difference. Some bolts were made bigger in hte timing
cover to accomodate the bracket changes.
SNIP
Thanks Frank, I'll take a closer look now that I have something to look
for, I accumulated this engine a few years ago and have it sort of
bagged at the present and have not started on the 76 wagon yet. With
this engine also came a rebuilt 904 with the same mileage on it since
rebuild as the engine had. That is slated for the wagon as the wagon
barfs fluid every time it backs up.
Appreciated
John
