Re: [AMC-List] 401 Engine surge problem

A: How could I forget about the loose hose before the fuel pump trick? I helped a guy with Cummins diesel who was fighting the same thing trying to get DOWN from Steven's pass! I heard a suction noise and realized that ain't normal on a diesel! (he was spritzing it with ether to get started, then it would go a mile and quit again) He was hauling a 40 foot trailer at the time too!

Plain old low-flow fuel pump problem?

This happened to me once, on a 258 six, no less -- slightly
loose fuel hose clamp on the SUCTION side of the pump, sucking
air! I could actually hear it, like pulsating sucking through
your teeth. Pulled on the hose and it changed.
