OK, so an Ipod actually doesn't play MP3's... it plays
a proprietary format called MP4 which locks you into
their system.  For those who have been captured and
are looking for a way out due to a desire to change
formats there is a software package called "Bad Apple"
that allows for translation.  

Many people with I Pods have experinced a failure
after 14-16 months... in fact you seem more likley to
have a failure if you failed to buy the extended
warranty, so if you buy one get the warranty!  The new
ones play videos, have a contact manager and other
cool features, but they're not the only options out
there.  

I prefer the pocket PC's which can run windows
programs, movies and play MP3's and can be plugged in
or transmited just like an I Pod.  

I like my Sirius sattelite radio as I can listen to
the same stations all over the country and I can hear
more than  music... comedy, sports etc... I am not
even a big sports fan, but today I was even able to
listen to WImbledon coverage!  

Well, there's my .02!

I thought I was done, but now noticed that the Z-bar to the clutch pedal is too long from the 1970...

I could probably use the 1970 clutch pedal to z-bar link???

I believe if what I have been told is correct you can use the later stuff if you use ALL of it. Don't mix and match. YOu need to use eveythign including the pedals to use the 70 linkage.

mp4 is not proprietary, it's mp3 with pictures.  realplayer and wmp as
well as quicktime can play it.  tivo uses it.  well actually since vid
and aud come from separate chips, their files have a soundless mp4 vid
stream + a mp3 stream, for computational reasons.  there are tools you
can run under linux at least that distill the tivo file into a proper
mp4 which you can watch on any computer, but they take cpu cycles a
tivo doesn't have on-the-fly.

there are probably lotsa tools that'll extract the sound data from an
mp4 file.

This AM I bumped it another 4 degrees; slight pinging on hard
accelleration, and no backfire.

Total static (no vacc hose, idle) advance is now about
12btdc. This seems high to me, in spite of the TSM.  I may yank
the distrib sometime to see if the mech advance is sticking
or something; I'll RTFM and find out what total mech adv is
supposed to be (after I ascertain just what the hell distributor
is in there! Some late-ish model Duraspark job). 

I suppose I should get one of those recurve kits (if I didn't
already) and do that then.

I did take your hint though on failing duraspark boxes; I
brushed off an extra one and put it in the trunk.

There are legal problems surrounding mp3 decoders/encoders,
relating to software patents. It's one of those really arcane
but terrifyingly oppressive things being battled up there in
the stratosphere.

Thomson CE has "patented" the algorithms needed to decode mp3s.
Not the programs, but the *IDEAS* needed to decode them. Software
patents are deemed horrible and oppressive by everyone not a
huge multinational corporation.

So you cannot legally write your own program, from scratch,
that plays an mp3 file, technically speaking. Clearly, lots of
people have, but the legal burden (in countries that recognize
software patents, like the US and Japan, but NOT Europe) limits
distribution to those willing to pay the blackmail licensing.
Microsoft does, but for those of us who run linux/unix
exclusively, I have to download it from a european site.

Software patents are analogous not to patenting say the AMC V8,
but the concept of V8. Eg. even from dead-scratch, if you made
a motor with 8 holes, in two banks, you would have to license
the idea first.  It's counter to centuries of law and tradition,
and is an attempt to "lock up" markets before they start.

Software patents have created monstrosities such as illegal
books; if you publish, in printed form, a program you wrote
from scratch, consulting nobody, and never once in your life
seeing another mp3-decoder program, that book would be illegal
to distribute. (The same legal technique is used to label
encryption "munitions".)

upgraded things that were problems when the car was new but never tried

I'm not sure I'm understanding you guys;  Should the adjustable 
proportioning valve - aka Wildwood or whatever the brand is - be IN ADDITION 
to the stock AMC proportioning valve?  You just junction the line to the 
rear brakes AFTER it goes through the stock one?  Or, should I try and 
remove the stock one alltogether?

The brake warning light is coming off of the stock PPV?

All 196 and 199 engines got the "big nut" rear even in 65 -- until they
were used up anyway. 232s never got them though there is no strength
difference between "big nut" and standard yoke rears. Proabably just the
phase out stage.

I vote for Jessica Simpson. Anyways, the big nut rear
was on the 64 also, I believe. At least mine came that
way. The Hornet, Gremlin, et al rear end will not bolt
directly into the American. I tried!! And since the
whole rear will not fit, just a hair too wide, the
axles won't fit directly either as they use the same
carrier. It seems if you want to ditch the big nut get
a 65 or later American rear, my 65 doesn't have the
big nut. I swapped in a 69 wagons rear into my 64 and
I will put the Hornets brakes on that rear end by
pulling the axle apart. They use the same bearing and
seal, so it looks to be piece of cake.....Russ
