" From: d stohler <das24rules@xxxxxxxxx>

" on another subject, does anyone know how strong the t-5's that came in
" the jeep cj's are? will they stand going behind a 304 with mild usual
" bolt ons. if not, gears and rebuild kits from say a mustang should fit
" right in right?? i like where the shifter is positioned on the jeep t5.
" i can retain my bench seats.

the amc-jeep t5s are good for about 220 ft-lbs, just enough for the
stock sixes. i wouldn't want to use one behind a v8 or even modified
six, and they're geared poorly for a car, with a very deep 1st.

i don't know if you can swap just 5.0 internals, but folks have been
putting 5.0 t5s into a lot of cars - including amcs - and the hot
trick for bench seats is a gm s-10 extension case - dunno if year
makes a difference - as it has about the farthest-fwd shifter
location.

an '86-9 5.0 t5 is rated 260 ft-lbs, '90-3 300. '94-5 are good except
for the input shaft which is longer for no good reason, but you can
swap an '86-'93 one in and use it.

all the mustang [and camaro] v8 t5s have stupid tall 5th gears [for epa
highway mileage reasons i'm sure], so i'd put a b-w aftermkt 0.8 5th
in, and while i was in there add a 5speeds.com 'countershaft
stabilizer' cluster bearing retainer.
